Enjoy Faster Speeds with Single Order Broadband (SoGEA) solutions from Elite
SoGEA Single Order Broadband is a version of FTTC Superfast Broadband that uses a combination of fibre and copper lines to deliver an internet connection. The key difference is that SoGEA does not rely on an underlying analogue phone product, so it will not be decommissioned as part of the PSTN Switch-Off scheduled for January 2027.
If full fibre broadband is not yet available in your area, moving to SoGEA is the smartest move. Act now to avoid losing connection with your colleagues and customers.

What is SoGEA broadband?
SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is a standalone broadband service that doesn’t require any underlying phone line, removing line rental costs carried by traditional FTTC connections.
With the UK’s PSTN network being permanently deactivated in January 2027, businesses still on ADSL or FTTC connections need to act urgently. SoGEA provides a direct, cost-effective migration path, delivering the same superfast speeds your business relies on, without the commercial overhead of analogue lines.
Existing phone numbers can be retained and migrated to a VoIP service, ensuring no damage to your communications. For most businesses, the transition requires minimal infrastructure change.

What are the benefits of SoGEA broadband?
- It’s cheaper: Your business can save significantly by avoiding line rental costs.
- It’s faster: With download speeds of up to 80Mbps and upload speeds of up to 20Mbps, SOGEA offers a major upgrade over traditional ADSL broadband.
- It’s reliable: As it doesn’t rely entirely on traditional phone lines, there’s a reduced risk of interference.
- It’s flexible: SoGEA allows you to switch providers quickly and easily, without the need for costly add-ons.
- It’s future-proof: Your business will stay fully operational when analogue lines are switched off.
- It’s simple: If you ever need assistance, you’ll only need to contact your SoGEA provider, rather than being passed between British Telecom and other service providers.

How is SoGEA broadband installed?
As there’s no need for a dedicated phone line, SoGEA installation is quick and straightforward. Depending on your business and premises, much of the infrastructure required to run SoGEA broadband is likely already in place.
This means there will be minimal physical changes (if any) needed by an engineer, saving your business time and making the process more convenient for both staff and customers. Unlike other broadband connections, SoGEA eliminates the need to purchase expensive new equipment.
Once the copper and fibre optic cables are connected and your router is live, you’re all set.

Improve Your Communication with Single Order Broadband
Although SoGEA Broadband does not, in itself, provide a voice service, Elite can easily move your telephone number to an internet-based voice product.
In addition to excellent call quality, your internet-based voice solution includes an array of telephony services, including telephone systems, SIP, telephone numbers, calls, lines and contact centre services.

Customer Reviews
“When we looked at our existing suppliers, side-by-side, Elite Group stood out as the provider who looked after our needs the best. Elite Group were always available to speak with when we contacted them, ready to offer advice, and we had access to a dedicated account manager who ensured our needs were always being met. It made sense that we would look to shift all communications to them.”
“Due to my technology background, I immediately knew that our existing telephony system was not fit for purpose, especially during the stresses of the current pandemic. It was a high priority to support our staff and our customers with the demands of the new way of working. We needed a system that we could use onsite, on the go and from home, which we could manage ourselves, but still have support on hand.”

Frequently Asked Questions
Are ADSL and FTTC broadband really getting switched off?
Yes! In fact, it’s already happening in some areas of the UK. By January 2027, the copper cables that have hosted UK telecommunications for decades will cease to work. Your business needs to plan on moving to SoGEA or a fibre broadband connection as soon as they are available to eliminate the risk of losing service.
Does SoGEA Broadband offer any service benefits vs FTTC?
In terms of the service you experience, SoGEA is designed to be a ‘like-for-like’ replacement for FTTC and has the same UK footprint. However, with a decommissioned analogue phone line and SoGEA being ready for the PSTN Switch-Off, there are commercial savings to be gained.
What routers are compatible with SOGEA?
Any router that aligns to FTTC (VDSL2) connectivity standards is compatible. SoGEA does still need a modem (either integrated into the router or separately), much like FTTC and ADSL.
If I want to migrate from analogue/ADSL/FTTC to SoGEA, what happens to my analogue telephone number?
SoGEA Broadband doesn’t come with a voice service, but your telephone number can be easily moved to an IP voice product. Elite offers a variety of IP voice products that can be tailored to your specific requirements. Contact us, and we’ll help you find the best fit.
SoGEA vs FTTP - which should my business use?
SoGEA is a great fit if you can’t get FTTP at your premises, but you want to make sure you are ready for the PSTN Switch-Off. If you can get FTTP, it’s an option worth exploring as it offers many more service benefits compared to copper-based broadband products.
Is SoGEA a full-fibre connection?
No. SoGEA is a hybrid broadband technology that uses both fibre optic and copper cables to deliver your connection. Fibre optic cables run from your local telephone exchange to the street cabinet, while the existing copper line carries the signal the remaining distance to your premises.
The length of that copper run determines your actual speeds. The closer your premises are to the cabinet, the faster your connection will be. This is why speeds can vary between sites, even on the same broadband provider.
For premises where full fibre (FTTP) is not yet available, SoGEA delivers the best available speeds over existing infrastructure without requiring any new cabling to your building.
