It is, quite simply, the best choice for any business with 15+ users and/or where loss of connectivity for more than a day would have substantial operational/commercial impact. Business broadband is an adequate option as a backup service, but Ethernet provides full peace of mind.
There are a selection of other Ethernet products available: · Ethernet over Fibre to the Cabinet (EoFTTC / GEA Ethernet) is similar to Ethernet First Mile and both come with enhanced business SLAs and a level of dedicated, uncontended bandwidth · Ethernet Point to Point connections are essentially the same as Leased Lines, but connect 2 geographically separated sites together, instead of connecting a single site to the internet.
Broadband was released more with residential usage in mind. As such, bandwidth is asymmetric (more download than upload) and SLAs are less robust. These differences are represented in the overall cost of the two services. However, Ethernet-based services deliver better long-term ROI.
Unlike Broadband, there are no ‘take over / migration’ order journeys for Ethernet Leased Lines. As such, when moving between suppliers, a new ethernet circuit would need to be installed with the old one ceasing once you’ve physically migrated your dependent services.
We can check for you whether your location accommodates Ethernet, so please get in touch if you’re not sure, but you almost certainly will be able to get one. However, it is worth noting that availability is better and cost is usually lower in areas with the best Ethernet footprints – typically inner cities or high-population towns.
